I just recently finished “The Dirty Life: A Memoir of Farming, Food, and Love” by Kristin Kimball. The book is basically a biography of how Kristin a New York City resident met her husband, a farmer.
In many ways I felt like they were modern pioneers, trying to make a living with no money just hard work. On their farm they believe in using animals, not machinery to get the work done. The book tells about the hardships of losing animals and crops, trying to start a CSA, and then eventually almost losing their relationship.
The thing I enjoyed most about this book was reading about all of the work, planning, and time it takes to run their farm and CSA. They have a real desire to be good stewards of their land. This book was an interesting read about a young farm couple.
